Sr. Yankees vs. Orioles - Orioles win first league game.
|
 |
The game started late as the Sr. Yankees only had eight men at the park but Spos captain, Geoff Clark (Thanks Geoff) showed up as a last minute call-up and the game began ten minutes late. The Sr. Yankees scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning but the Orioles put up two in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Sr. Yankees drove in four runs in the third but the Orioles did one better by scoring five runs in the fourth, closing out the inning. Going into the bottom of the seventh inning the Sr. Yankees were up a run and just needed one more out for the victory but Orioles outfielder, James Hawkins hit a game-winning single over left fielder Ohmarr Morris' head scoring both runners on base to win a tight game for the Orioles 9-8.
Matt Antolin started the game for the Sr. Yankees pitching well for the first three innings. The Oriole' batters got to Matt in the fourth scoring five runs in the inning. Matt pitched 3.1 innings giving up seven runs on nine hits, walking two batters while striking out eight. Jordan Shemie took over for Matt and pitched well keeping the Sr. Yanks in the game but received his fourth loss of the season. Jordan gave up two runs on five hits while striking out four Oriole' batters. |
The Sr. Yankee' sluggers were in top form as pitcher Matt Antolin went 3 for 3 with a walk, two runs, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Relief pitcher / third baseman Jordan Shemie went 3 for 5 at the plate, scoring two runs while stealing two bags. Shortstop, Richie Simpson went 2 for 3, driving in two runs and stealing a base while first baseman Seymour Walden hit 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Right fielder Christian Scott had a good day running the bases, stealing four bags giving him ten stolen bases for the season.
With three games remaining the Sr. Yankees will look to finish strong as they hope to secure second place in the 'A' division. The Sr. Yankees will host the Diamondbacks on Thursday August 21st, looking to get their first win off this very powerful D-Backs' team. The Yanks will then play the Orioles on Sunday August 24th and finish the season against the first place Diamondbacks on Thursday August 28th. All games will take place at Terra-Cotta park.

Sr. Yankees vs. Spos - A much needed win for the Yanks.

The struggling Sr. Yankees annihilated their 'B' division rivals, the Spos on Wedneday night en route to a 13-1 victory. The Sr. Yankees scored four runs in the second inning, five runs in the third and three more in the fourth to put the game out of reach. By the end of the fifth inning the Sr. Yankees were up by twelve, which meant the game was over due to the mercy rule.
Seymour Walden started the game for the Sr. Yankees and pitched five quality innings, allowing only one run on two hits while striking out four. Seymour was in control all night long, setting up the Spos' batters with nasty breaking pitches, then unleashing his sneaky-fast heater by all unsuspecting victims. Seymour never once faced more than five Spos' batters in an inning, indicating his dominance over the Spos' lineup. Seymour picked up his second win of the year, to improve his record to 2-0.

The bats were alive and kicking with every Sr. Yankee reaching base at least once. Lead-off man Kevin Babin went 1 for 2, with a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Pitcher, Seymour Walden helped his own cause by going 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Second baseman Phil Mathieu also hit well going 1 for 2 with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Sr. Yankees owner Ohmarr Morris and bench coach Christian Scott each went 2 for 2 with a walk. Ohmarr drove in three runs while Christian hit a double and stole two bases. Centerfielder Ryan Archambault reached base on three separtate occasions and scored two runs while driving in another and third baseman Matt Antolin went 1 for 3, scoring two runs.
The next game for the Sr. Yankees is tomorrow night at Parc St. Laurent against the last place Orioles. With only four games remaining each game will be crucial for the Sr. Yankees and their aspirations for a second place finish, which would give them home field advantage in the play-offs. The game against the Orioles is to get under way at 7:30PM.
Division rivals, the Diamondbacks and the Knights will be battling at Terra-Cotta park with the Knights looking to clinch second place with a win. Game time is set for 7:30PM.

Sr. Yankees vs. Knights - Knights win a close one.
|
 |
The day didn't start off well for the Sr. Yankees as they were short two players come game time. As the minutes went by, the umpires had to put the Sr. Yankees on the clock, giving the team fifteen minutes to get another player or forfeit. With five minutes remaining one of the blues, James Hawkins, told the Yanks that he'd dress for them, leaving only one umpire for the game.
The game started twenty minutes late and the Sr. Yankees had only eight men on the field when the Knights took an early three run lead, constantly hitting the ball between the two outfielders. Call up Matt Waaba joined the team in the second inning, finally giving the Sr. Yankees nine players. Both teams played solid defense throughout the seven innings with the Sr. Yankees not scoring a run until the fifth inning. After the Sr. Yanks scored two runs in the fifth the Knights looked to answer back, adding one more run in the seventh. The Sr. Yankees answered in the bottom half of the inning with a home run from Matt Waaba but that's as close as they got and the Knights won a close one, 4-3.

Sr. Yankees ace, Christian 'Douf' Dufresne took to the mound for his sixth start of the seaon. He pitched really well, keeping the Knights bats off balance for most of the day. Unfortunately the Sr. Yankee' bats couldn't provide the much needed run support and Christian picked up his fourth loss of the season. 'Douf' pitched seven strong innings, giving up four earned runs, walking three batters while striking out seven.
Leadoff man, Phil Mathieu went 1 for 3, with a walk and a stolen base. Third baseman Jordan Shemie went 1 for 4 at the dish scoring an RBI in the fifth inning. Pitcher Christian Dufresne went 1 for 2, with a walk and a run scored and slugger Matt Antolin also went 1 for 2 with a walk.
The Sr. Yankees have lost five of their last six games by the score of 70-39. Defense and a lack of offense have been the team's achilles' heel. With only five games remaining, the Sr. Yankees will look to rebound as they play back to back games against weaker teams this week. The Spos roll into town on Wednesday night looking to keep their four game winning streak alive. The game will be played at Terra-Cotta park. On Thursday night the Sr. Yankees will tangle against the last place Orioles at Parc St. Laurent. Start time for both games is 7:30PM.
